The Bishop Play is returning this year with The Little Mermaid Jr!
The play will again be open to Bishop students in grades 1 through 5.
Registration will be right here. It will start on Monday, October 26th at 9:00am and end on Friday, October 30th at 9:00pm.
Our amazing, talented Director, Sarah Morrison Zietman, will be returning and we are welcoming a wonderful new Assistant Director, Megan Johnson.
Details on ways to participate and costs are below.
Two important schedule notes that are different this year: rehearsals are happening on Tuesdays (Cast A) and Fridays (Cast B) this year and the Mandatory Dress Rehearsal is happening on a Sunday (Cast A will be 12:00-3:00 and Cast B 3:00-6:00).

Ways to Participate:

- Cast A Performances are Friday, March 19th at 7:00pm and Saturday, March 20th at 12:00pm
- Cast B Performances are Saturday, March 20th at 6:00pm and Sunday, March 21st at 2:00pm
Notes about Options for 4th and 5th Graders:
Audition:
- Students will come to one of two audition slots in November where they will learn part of a dance from the show and sing some songs from the show. Some students will be invited to callbacks where they will dance, sing and act out a scene with a script in hand. The directors will guide students through the process and are looking for enthusiasm and expression! Students who audition are eligible for a leading role, a smaller speaking role, or a solo. They should be prepared to attend most rehearsals, including all December rehearsals (must be available on Tuesdays and Fridays in December).
Ensemble:
- Students who choose to be in the Ensemble do not need to audition. They will be cast in group numbers where they will sing and dance as part of the larger cast. Ensemble members typically do not have their own lines or solos but are essential to the musical’s energy and storytelling. The ensemble should expect to attend rehearsal regularly, including several December rehearsals and all rehearsals for their assigned scenes and songs.
Tech-Ensemble:
- Students in Tech-Ensemble will not audition. They will learn the show’s songs and dances. At some rehearsals, Tech-Ensemble will help build and paint set pieces, create props, practice moving set pieces and assist with other backstage roles. During the performances, Tech-Ensemble students can participate in ensemble numbers on stage and/or assist backstage with scene changes and distributing specific props. Students should understand that technical roles (such as running the spotlight or pulling the curtain) are not guaranteed and will only be assigned to those who demonstrate strong responsibility, reliability and focus throughout all rehearsals. Participation in Tech-Ensemble will be limited to approximately 10 students per cast to ensure meaningful involvement for everyone. Tech Ensemble will start participating in rehearsals in December alongside the Ensemble.
Adult Volunteer Role Descriptions:
Cast Support: This team will work directly with the students during rehearsals and during the productions, facilitating student check-in/check-out and supporting students while they are offstage/backstage. This role requires availability on some Tuesday or Friday afternoons.
Mainstage/Backstage Support: This team will support the production by helping to cue actors backstage and assisting with costume changes, props, curtain, set, and mic changes. Team members need to be available for dry tech meeting, dress rehearsal(s) and at least two performances.
Props/Student Tech Ensemble: This team will work with the student tech ensemble on projects for the show (such as building props, set pieces, etc.). Team members will work with the director to identify, plan, and coordinate the projects and support the students as they complete them. This role requires availability on some Tuesday or Friday afternoons.s.
Costumes: This team will assemble and acquire all of the costumes needed for the production. Sewing skills are helpful, but not necessary. Availability during rehearsal time is not required.
Make-up: This team will work with the costume team and Directors to meet stage make-up needs for the production. Make-up assistants will be need to be available in the two hours prior to performances.
Set: This team will design, construct, and paint the stage set and assist with strike after the production. Some weekend availability is required.
House: This team will manage tickets (sales and distribution), organize concessions, decorate the lobby and set up the auditorium for the performances.
Lighting: This involves working with the Directors to install and run lighting for the production. It requires attending the dry tech meeting, dress rehearsal(s), and all four performances.
Sound: This involves working with the Directors to set up and manage sound equipment for the production. It requires attending the dry tech meeting, dress rehearsal(s), and all four performances.
Photography: This involves taking photos during rehearsals, dress rehearsal, backstage and during performances. Having a high-quality camera and photography experience is required (camera phones or similar devices are not suƯicient for this role).
